Mountain Equipment Company (MEC), Canada’s most trusted outdoor retailer is set to expand its retail footprint with the opening of a new standalone store in the Maritimes this August. The new location will be situated at The Mapleton Centre, Moncton and will offer a wide selection of top outdoor brands as well as its much-loved in-house MEC label products.

The Moncton store will be MEC’s second location in the Maritimes, joining Halifax, and it’s 22nd standalone store across Canada. It allows MEC to continue with its mission to make quality outdoor gear, expertise, and experiences accessible to people across Canada.

“We are excited to become part of the passionate outdoor Moncton community” said Peter Hlynsky, Chief Operations Officer, MEC. “Moncton is a hub city in the Maritimes with an abundance of local and provincial wild spaces, ideal for camping, hiking, climbing, biking, paddling, and Cross-Country skiing, and we are looking forward to helping new customers and members gear-up for their outdoor adventures.”

The 17,000sqft front retail space will provide premium MEC experience and expertise well known to customers and members and the additional 6,000sqft backstock will accommodate the future addition of a substantial rental fleet assortment, as well as a bike shop.

Monctonians can expect to see top name outdoor brands carried by the retailer, including Patagonia and The North Face as well as the company’s own MEC label brand of products not carried anywhere else. All purchases are backed by MEC’s Rocksolid Guarantee.

As with all MEC stores it will be fully staffed with local outdoor experts who have firsthand knowledge and advice on all things camping, hiking, travel and more. The retailer is currently recruiting for a variety of positions at the new store including a dynamic and experienced General Manger, to lead this new expedition in Moncton.

MEC is more than a store and a job. Staffers share their passion for the outdoors and MEC supports   their passion through training and product knowledge, free gear rentals, pro deals, discounts, and opportunities to spend time with peers on field experience trips, learning new activities and living the values and purpose of the company by being active outside.

“We were also voted one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2023.” said Hlynsky “This and other perks are just some of the reasons why so many people love being part of the MEC team and were excited to grow and bring all this passion to Moncton”.

MEC is committed to supporting communities it serves and will work closely with local organizations and initiatives in Moncton to promote the accessibility of outdoor recreation and environmental sustainability. Currently the search is on for a dynamic and experienced General Manger to lead this new expedition in Moncton.
