Sustainability, technology, and inclusivity are the driving forces in the new Spring 2024 collection from Outdoor Research. Those three pillars, which continue the trajectory of a brand offering consistently strong product leadership that has in turn driven significant sales growth over the last decade, shape a line that continues the Seattle-based outdoor product manufacturer’s forward momentum.
- Sustainability — Along with using more recycled and sustainably sourced materials in its products, Outdoor Research publicly outlined its climate-action goals earlier this year based on Science Based Target Initiative guidance. It also began transitioning away from intentionally added per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which will be virtually complete by the Spring 2024 product line.
- Technology — From pioneering new techniques like Duraprint, a 3D printed structure that adds durability without adding weight or impeding flexibility in apparel, to sourcing new kinds of fabrics that advance categories, like the new Shadow Wind Shell, the Spring 2024 continues to show how OR leads through innovation.
- Inclusivity — Over recent years, Outdoor Research has built the outdoor industry’s most comprehensive technical apparel program in inclusive sizes. It continues to offer more styles in sizing ranging from XS to 4X Plus, including in its new Freewheel mountain biking collection, new for Spring 2024.
OUTERWEAR AND TECHNICAL APPAREL
Shadow Wind Hoodie — The Shadow Wind Hoodie is a category game-changer — a 5-ounce protective layer that makes ultralight wind shells more comfortable for active use. The problem: Traditional wind shells are highly packable but not comfortable to wear when working hard. Rather than using a traditional wind shell fabric, the Shadow uses an extremely light, bluesign®-approved stretch-woven material that’s super stretchy and supremely comfortable for all active uses. That’s paired with a stow-able, adjustable hood, a single chest and two hand pockets, and a simple, versatile silhouette that works well for many sports. It also uses a DWR treatment free of fluorinated materials — $ 129.
Stratoburst Stretch Rain Jacket and Pants — The Stratoburst Jacket and Pants combine everything you could want in weatherproof apparel — a soft face fabric with mechanical stretch, an extraordinarily lightweight and packable design, a complete feature set, and industry-leading sustainability — all at a sharp price. The Stratoburst collection uses a 50D recycled polyester stretch fabric and is free from intentionally added PFAS, leading the outdoor industry’s move away from fluorinated materials. Features include hand pockets, large pit zips, an adjustable hood, and full-length side zippers on the pants — $165 and $129.
Men’s Foray II / Women’s Aspire II Jacket and Pants — The best-selling men’s Foray and women’s Aspire Jacket and Pants are now the mosteco-friendly product in Outdoor Research’s apparel line, newly updated for Spring 2024 with a 50D recycled polyester face fabric and a C0 DWR treatment that’s free of fluorinated materials. There’s a reason these styles have such a loyal following — they’re superb do-it-all shells with proven performance for a relatively modest price. They feature best-in-class durability and waterproof ratings thanks to bluesign®-approved GORE-TEX® Paclite® fabric, and they employ TorsoFloTM waist-to-bicep zippers for category-leading ventilation. Available in inclusive sizes from XS to 4X Plus — $225 and $180.
Ferrosi Duraprint® Hoodie — How do you improve a softshell that’s been a category leader for years and is universally loved? Answer: increase durability in high-wear areas while slightly trimming weight. The new Ferrosi Hoodie adds DuraPrint, a 3D-printed overlay, on the elbows and shoulders for added abrasion resistance in high-wear areas. Duraprint’s proprietary resin-based structure adds durability without adding weight or impeding flexibility in the fabric. Beyond that, the Ferrosi Duraprint® Hoodie utilizes materials that have made it a fan favorite and an award winner — a 46-percent recycled stretch-woven softshell fabric that’s far lighter and more breathable than most in the category. It also uses a DWR treatment that’s free of fluorinated materials. From trail to water and snow to rock, the Ferrosi does it all — $155.
TECHNICAL SPORTSWEAR
Astroman Air Sun Hoodie and Shirt Collection — In the seasons since its unveiling, the Astroman collection has come to define the category of lightweight, airy, stretchy, and durable sun protection layers. For Spring 24, the new Air Collection features bluesign®-approved, 85% recycled fabric, increased airflow and breathability, and updated styling. The men’s and women’s Astroman Air Sun Hoodie gets added ventilation thanks to tiny laser perforations under the arms. For more day-in, day-out use, there’s also a new men’s Astroman Air Short-Sleeve Shirt, which has laser perforations on the back panel, along with the regular short- and long-sleeve shirts, which get updated recycled materials and new solid colors and plaids. The women’s short- and long-sleeve shirt collection brings new print options, along with updated button-down styling, also in new solids and plaids. Built for hot, rugged places but entirely at home lounging in the sun, the collection offers 30 to 50+ UPF-rated sun protection, depending on color — $99 to $110.
Women’s Vantage Crop Top and Leggings — A versatile knit collection built to perform across a wide range of outdoor activities, the Vantage Crop Top and Leggings offer a comfortable engineered fit with excellent coverage. The Crop Top is a compression-fit bra with a higher cut in front and a strappy back, built with a double layer of OR’s stretch-knit nylon/spandex Vantage fabric in front and a power mesh band for support. The 7/8-length leggings, which have drop-in tight pockets and a gusseted crotch, pair a high-waist construction with power mesh on the interior for support. Available in solids and prints — $55 and $89.
Essential Fleece Crew and Pullover Hoodie — The Essential name encapsulates what’s unique about OR’s four-season fleece crew and pullover hoodie — a super-soft fabric that’s brushed on the interior is paired with exacting details to create tops that you’ll reach for day-after-day. The crew features a ribbed neckline, hem, and cuffs, while the pullover hoody has a three-panel hood and a Kangaroo pocket pouch. Men’s- and women’s-specific silhouettes — $99 and $125.
Ferrosi Joggers — The youthful jogger silhouette fits the bill for a wide range of activities; running, hiking, climbing, and functionality for daily living. Made even better by OR’s premium Ferrosi softshell fabric, which lasts forever and is light, stretchy, and maintains a premium look and feel over time. Bonus: the Ferrosi fabric is made of 46% recycled materials and is bluesign® approved. The women’s version is new for Spring 2024 — $95.
HATS, DUFFELS AND PACKS
Swift Lite Brimmer, Swift Tech Cap, and Swift Ultra Lite Cap — The Swift Cap has earned a name amongst runners for pairing technical performance with dialed-in features. In Spring 2024, more hats will join the collection, honoring the technical and design heritage of the
Swift name and broadening the family for different uses. The Swift Lite Brimmer is a comfortable, breathable full-brim hat built with an ultralight, stretch-woven fabric and laser-cut perforations on the side panel for ventilation. The Swift Lite Tech Cap offers the same attributes in a ball-cap style, while the Swift Ultra-Light Cap puts those features into a lid that packs down the size of your palm and works under a helmet — $38 to $50.
CarryOut Duffel — Built to be your go-anywhere travel companion, the CarryOut Duffel is updated for Spring 2024 with 420D PU-coated material throughout, increasing this burly travel bag’s durability and weather resistance. This versatile duffel features an expandable interior pocket to separate dirty clothes, and an ergonomic shoulder strap makes for a more comfortable carry. The design of the two removable handles means you can throw it on as a backpack when running to catch a tight connection. Available in 40, 65, and 80-liter versions — $135, $155, and $175.
Heyday 20-Liter Pack — Because sometimes simplicity is what the situation calls for, the Heyday 20-liter pack takes an everything-you-need, nothing-you-don’t approach to creating an excellent commuter pack that doubles as a day pack. It is compact with ample storage and fits a large laptop in the interior sleeve. Featuring an exterior pocket for organization, a side water bottle pocket, and bombproof 600D fabric — $99.
