SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, California – (June 13, 2023) Outdoor Retailer is expanding its investment in the outdoor industry by adding a dedicated website and in-house staff for The Daily, the print magazine distributed at the trade show.
The goal of the new digital version of The Daily is to provide timely business news and information about the outdoor industry for outdoor companies, retailers, service providers, and others.
The Daily publishes stories every business day that focus on brand and company news, executive profiles, executive hirings, retailer interviews, financial reports, business trends, and industry events.
“The outdoor market is a thriving, $862 billion industry and worthy of daily business news coverage,” said Jeff Davis, group vice president for action sports and outdoor at Emerald, the parent company of Outdoor Retailer. “We are happy to make this investment to produce quality content for brands and retailers in the outdoor space.”
As part of the content expansion, Emerald has made several key hires for The Daily, including:
Bart Schaneman, Editor – Schaneman previously spent six years as a reporter and editor at MJBiz, the leading business news publication for the cannabis industry. He also served as editor in chief of the Scottsbluff Star-Herald in Nebraska, and worked as a journalist in South Korea. He is based in Colorado.
Casey Vandenoever, Senior Account Executive – Vandenoever has extensive experience in the outdoor industry. Prior to joining Emerald, he sold advertising for Outside Interactive, Outside Business Journal, Warren Miller, SNEWS, Backpacker, Ski, and Elevation Outdoors. Vandenoever is based in Colorado.
Shannon Park, Account Executive – Park has served as a sales executive for Shop Eat Surf, the leading business news publication for the action sports industry, and now also works with The Daily. Previously, Park served as managing director of the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association and marketing manager for Surf Expo. She is based in Southern California.
Tiffany Montgomery, Editor-in-Chief – Montgomery founded Shop Eat Surf 15 years ago, and Emerald acquired the business in 2019. Previously she spent more than a decade as a reporter and editor at The Orange County Register daily newspaper. She currently oversees both The Daily and Shop Eat Surf and is based in Southern California.
Developing a robust content strategy for the thriving outdoor industry is an important part of Emerald’s 365-day strategy, said Danielle Puceta, Emerald’s executive vice president of content and commerce.
