Rocky Talkie, a leading provider of outdoor communication devices, is pleased to announce the launch of the 5 Watt Radio. Designed and tested in the Colorado Rockies to fulfill the communication needs of the most demanding backcountry traveler, the 5 Watt Radio ushers in a new era of performance in the hand-held General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) market.
Rocky Talkie’s flagship Mountain Radio quickly became the go-to option for many backcountry sports, receiving industry awards and overwhelmingly positive customer reviews. The new 5 Watt Radio builds upon the most popular characteristics of the Mountain Radio–industry-leading battery life, durability, and intuitive operation–but with additional benefits like increased range and an IP67 waterproof rating (1 meter submersion and water-shedding design) to facilitate communications for a wider range of backcountry pursuits, from white-water paddling to hunting and overlanding.
“We’ve spent years systematically designing and testing a fully waterproof GMRS radio that inspires a new level of confidence in backcountry communications,” commented Bryce Jones, CEO and co-founder of Rocky Talkie. “We’re thrilled to add the 5 Watt Radio to our line-up and enable adventurers to push their limits even further in the backcountry.” Jones continued.
The 5 Watt Radio from Rocky Talkie transmits the highest GMRS power permitted under FCC regulations (5 watts) for a max range of 35 miles (2 to 8 miles in typical backcountry terrain). GMRS designation means the 5 Watt Radio also unlocks repeater capability to relay and further extend communications range. Each radio comes with a pre-installed compact and high-performance 3 inch antenna and an easily swappable 7.5 inch whip antenna included in the box.
When designing the 5 Watt Radio, Rocky Talkie also prioritized battery life: A critical aspect of backcountry radio communications. Built with a specialized, cold-resistant 1800 mAh battery, the 5 Watt Radio achieves a sector-leading 4 to 6 days of use on a single charge, even in temperatures as low as -20F.
Complementing the 5 Watt Radio’s range and battery life is a streamlined feature set purpose-built to maximize user experience. This includes an integrated steel gator clip with 360° rotation for easy attachment and access, a backup leash for added security against drops, and rugged rubber padding and shatterproof LED screen for outstanding durability. 11 NOAA weather channels and alerts provide backcountry enthusiasts with critical weather data in the field, and dual-channel watch allows users to simultaneously monitor private group and public community channels in high-traffic backcountry zones.
Launching on November 8th, 2023, The Rocky Talkie 5 Watt Radio (MSRP: $165) is a best-in-class, hand-held communications tool that delivers an exceptional GMRS radio experience out of the box. For more information, please visit: http://www.rockytalkie.com
