The process, done by hand at its company headquarters in Woburn, takes approximately 7 days and costs between $36.00 and $72.00 with free shipping. Tread Labs insoles are made of two parts: the foam top cover and the molded arch plate. To refurbish a pair of worn insoles, Tread Labs removes the used top cover and swaps it with a 100% recycled polyester replacement that is used on the existing arch plate. The sandals, made with 100% recycled yarns and a 3D knitting process that produces zero waste, are also resoleable, giving an already durable product an extended useful life.
“We have a responsibility to make smart business decisions that have minimal impact on the planet,” said Paigen. “Since we have a generous return policy and encourage customers to try multiple styles and arch heights to find their perfect fit, we were seeing many returns that had barely been used. It didn’t make sense to throw them away and create all that waste. Instead, we decided to give these like-new returns a second life with our refurbished program.”
By refurbishing insoles and, now sandals, Tread Labs is able to provide consumers the opportunity to try different products by extending the life of gently worn products. The refurbish program has grown tremendously over the years as consumers are looking for more planet friendly options.
