Weston Backcountry, an award winning Colorado based ski and snowboard company, is announcing today that it has completed the rigorous B Corp Certification. Scoring a 92.4, Weston is joined by only a handful of other snowboard and ski companies in the industry – fellow Colorado based Icelantic Skis, WNDR and Burton Snowboards to name a few. Originally out of Minturn, CO – Weston will also be opening its new Denver, HQ and retail showroom on October 26th.

Weston has been certified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, as having met rigorous social and environmental standards which represent its commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit.

The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’ operations and covers five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, the company will legally embed their commitment to purpose beyond profit in their company articles.

“We pursued B-corp for balance and posterity. We want to be part of a solution where the pursuit of protecting the planet, providing for our people, and sustaining profits are not at odds and can be in balance. B Corp provided us with a robust and progressive framework for which to build on and also ensures the organization’s DNA is encoded in the pursuit of this balance.” – Leo Tsuo – CEO and President of Pow Slaying at Weston

“The simple truth is that without snow, we can’t exist. Protecting the environment and reducing our impact has been at the core of what we do at Weston since day one. However, there are many other areas that we can have a positive impact in. B Corp certification serves as a testament to the work we’ve done, but also is an incredible resource in our pursuit of doing better. While this certification is the cumulation of years worth of work, it’s also only a first step in our journey.” – Alex Blanchard, Production & Sustainability Manager at Weston

There are currently over 7,000 B Corps worldwide and Weston is excited to join the roster of these change makers alongside key brands such as Patagonia.

“For the last 10 years, we at Weston have been unified by the one rallying statement of ‘bringing powder to the people.’ We are committed to being stewards of the planet and understand the value of friends on a powder day – the value of an inclusive community. Our B Corp certification is not the end, but only the beginning. We still have plenty of space to grow.” – Sean Eno – Director of Marketing at Weston

Weston plans to celebrate this achievement with the grand opening of our new Denver HQ on October 26th. The event is open to the public from 4pm to 9pm. Weston was originally founded in Minturn, CO in 2012 just outside the mega resort of Vail, CO.

“Minturn, CO and our Tiny House showroom will always hold a special place in our heart, but there is a reason we say that Minturn is in the shadow of Vail. We hope that our move to Denver allows us to better connect to a larger community and continue to make an impact both socially and environmentally.” – Sean Eno, Director of Marketing

Weston will continue to retain a satellite office in Minturn, but all primary operations have moved down to Denver. The move to Denver, and the B Corp certification are just a few more indicators that we at Weston are here to stay and intend to continue to shake things up in the industry.
